Heinz was born on 9 Jun 1907 in Viersen, Germany to Alexander and Francisca nee Strauss. After completing his elementary and high school studies, he studied engineering at the Polytechnic and qualified as a textile engineer. He excelled in all his studies, and showed a special interest in literature and music becoming a skilled pianist. When the Nazis came to power, he was fired from his workplace and decided to immigrate to Israel. As a Zionist, he first went to a training camp in Lithuania where he met and married Lithuanian Freida Kaganaite. They arrived in Israel in 1935 and lived in Tel Aviv before moving to Herzliya where he worked in an orchard. After a while he began working in his profession as a silk engineer in a factory in Ramat Gan and applied for naturalisation which was granted on 11 Oct 1940.

Heinz enlisted in 1940 and after training he was sent to Egypt where he worked as a medic at a hospital in Heliopolis. He died from alkaptonuria (a rare genetic metabolic disorder) in hospital on 21 January 1943.
